When you feel like it's "too late" to start again

Jul 28, 2022

What do you do when you're unhappy in your job, but you don't know what it is you want, and ultimately...

...you feel like it's "too late" to start again?

I had this question come up in my Career Accelerator Program group and I thought, I bet other women also feel like this.

Some days when you scroll through SEEK there seems like unlimited choices, and other days it feels like there are zero choices.

Even if you did know what you wanted to do, other "problems" arise, such as...

...regret about some of the past choices you've made which led you to this point

...lack of experience in the new field

... self-doubt which leads to procrastination

All of these factors really limit what's possible for you.

They work their way into your mind until it all seems impossible and there isn't a way to reframe it for yourself to make it possible...

...hence it shows up as "it's too late to start again".

When you're in that frame of mind it starts to really feel like "hard work" trying to find a new job or career pathway.

So, what do you do when this happens?

The biggest piece of coaching I have ever received was... *drum role*

Forgive yourself.

Forgive yourself for all the past choices that have led you here.

Forgive yourself for not finishing that course.

Forgive yourself for not changing jobs sooner.

Forgive yourself for putting yourself second all these years.

Remove these words from your vocabulary "should have...", "could have...", or "would have..." and replace with "I CAN".

I'm not saying it will be super easy.  We all have "stuff" we're dealing with.

But find one piece you can let go of right now.

I had to forgive myself for not having a degree.  I "should" have studied something when I left school.  I "could" have been in a role that was respected.  I "would" be in a better position in my career if I had.

Once I forgave myself for not getting a university degree and sought out support to make my career dream happen regardless...

...massive things shifted for me.

I got clear about where my purpose was and where I wanted to focus my career.

Then I made it happen.

If this is something you're also struggling with, I'd love to support you.
