How I changed from "pushover" to "inspirational"

career leadership Jun 23, 2023

What type of leader are you?

How would you describe yourself if you were asked that question today?

When I first started out leading a small team I wanted to be an inspirational leader.

The type of leader that my people wanted to work hard for, where I was admired, and where I felt I made a real difference.

But in reality?

I was seen as the "nice one", the "pushover".  Where my team could take days off, be late to work, and miss deadlines, and they wouldn't get in trouble.

Was I ok with it?

Absolutely not!

But I was so concerned with being "liked" that I didn't want to rock the boat.

I found it excruciating to have difficult conversations about performance and often I ignored poor behavior and just did the work myself.

I got tired, resentful, and burned out. I thought I wasn't cut out for leadership.  I thought perhaps that I just wasn't born with the ability to lead.

I nearly gave up.

But then I was lucky enough to be introduced to a leadership program within in my workplace.

And that program started with a leadership assessment that measured my internal thought patterns as a leader and showed me where my strengths, capabilities, and development areas were as a leader.

Finally, it made sense why I was so avoidant to difficult conversations!

And I was given practical tools, models, and strategies to lift my confidence and capability as a leader which made my life so much easier.

I gained so much respect from my team.

I felt confident with every interaction.

My team excelled and people in my organisation noticed my abilities and I took a "seat at the table".

I finally "felt" like a leader.

My own personal story and journey into leadership are why I created the Leadership Accelerator Program.

To give women (you!) the opportunity to lead powerfully and feel fulfilled in their current and future roles.

And we start with an incredible leadership assessment tool and debrief where you too can understand yourself at a much deeper level and create a leadership development plan to have you excel.

It's an incredibly powerful journey and one that I'd be honored to take you on.

All you have to do as a next step is find time to talk to me about the program and see if it's a good fit for you.

You can do that here: https://empescott.as.me/leadership-discovery-call

I hope to talk to you soon about your career and what this program can provide you.

We start 24th July so now is the time to start the conversation :)
