There's $1m in your bank account…

career dream job workshop finance million money Dec 08, 2023

Imagine waking up to your morning coffee, only to discover $1 million snugly nestled in your bank account.

Now, before you sprint to hand in your resignation letter, let's consider:

Will you be happier?

What will you do with all of your time?

Will you continue to work?

A surprising statistic reveals that many who win the lottery (yes, even more than $10 million!) find themselves no happier and, shockingly, often broke again within a few years.

You say it wouldn’t happen to you but…

We have a remarkable way of adapting to our circumstances, including increased wealth.

Your initial joy and excitement of having more money fades over time as you adjust to your new normal.

Think about it.  Do you remember where all of your salary increases have gone over the years?

I remember the first time I negotiated an extra $20k in my salary, I was dreaming big of all the ways my life will be better, but the following year that money hadn’t made much of an impact.

This real phenomenon is known as the hedonic treadmill, where your initial happiness levels return to a baseline despite the increased wealth in your life.

If you’re not happy now, money won’t change that. If you’re not fulfilled now, money also won’t change that.

You’ll be more comfortable, but the lack of fulfilment will eventually rear its head up again.

But here's the thing; what if you found that $1m in your bank account and instead of quitting your job and dwindling down that cash, you were doubly excited because you did love your job AND you got to save the cash!

Finding a fulfilling, purposeful job, one that you don't want to give up, even if you did happen to strike it lucky in Tattslotto is the place to aim for.
