Stop being crap at keeping your promises

People are notoriously crap at keeping their promises, and you’re probably one of them.

Remember at the start of the year you promised yourself you would ask for a payrise?

Or, when you swore you were going to kick January 1 off by slimming down your work hours?

Or, how you were no longer going to stall any longer, you were going to quit your job and get one that values you.  (You know the one - where you get the fabulously supportive boss and stack more money?).

But you didn’t do this last year, did you?

You swept it under the carpet and patted yourself on the back for “best intentions”.

Hey, I’m not judging.  I do it.

Last year I promised myself that I would focus on not being so stressed, and practice being mindful every day (I know right, is that even possible?). Did I do it?

For exactly one day.

One day!  I couldn’t even do it for a week.

Because here’s the thing, if you’re anything like me, right now you’ll be trying to keep all the ‘to do’ lists in your head at bay.

This is on top of Christmas shopping, cooking, planning and also being paranoid about bikini season or the myriad of other ‘women in Summer’ related issues that we have to deal with.

Too many promises to keep.

So, this Monday Mindset has one key message:

Only promise something that you really want in 2024 that will make a huge difference to you.

Give up the rest.  For example:

Don’t worry if your tree doesn’t look like the one at David Jones (even though you promised last year you’d do better).

Don’t worry if you don’t have a matching linen pant suit and wide brimmed straw hat like influencers (even though you promised you’d pay more attention to your personal brand).

Don’t worry if you don’t have seafood AND turkey (or whatever you do at your place) over the silly season.

What is that one promise you really want to keep that will make a true difference to you?

Maybe it’s spending more time with your family.

Laughing more with your friends.

Spending more time on the hobby you love.

Embrace the sweet, sweet freedom and absolute bliss that comes with not overloading yourself with promises you can’t keep.  And just make one promise happen!

This gives you the ultimate permission to just chillax for the rest of the year lovely lady!
