Taking on a leadership role can start out "rosy", however the path is often paved with obstacles that test your motivation and drive.

Conflict conversations, team members not delivering, and let's be honest, managers often feel they've simply taken on another full time job...on top of their existing one!

Here's two quick ways to keep your motivation high as you navigate your journey.

1. Define Your "Why"

As leadership expert Simon Sinek suggests in his book "Start with Why," having a clear sense of purpose and understanding the "why the heck you want to be a leader" can continue your passion and drive.

What outcome do you want from the journey?  How do you want to feel? What is your purpose?  What type of leader do you want to show up as?  What do you want to be known for?

Getting clear on these questions can re-ignite your passion for the job.

2. Find Inspirational Role Models

If you're not sure about what type of leader you are (or want to be), find inspiration role models and borrow their best traits, until you build out your own.

A chef doesn't become a great chef instantly.  They need to play with other chef's recipes first, observe, practice, see what works for them.  Only then do they start creating their own style and individual dishes.

It's the same for leadership.  The leaders you admire, observe what works for them.   Borrow their strategies, communication style, and ways of operating until you find what resonates with you.

From there you can create your own authentic leadership style.
