Hello Fraudster - Yep, I'm Talking To You...

career imposter syndrome job Nov 13, 2023

Today, I want to talk about something that affects (I dare say ‘all’) professional women: Imposter Syndrome.

We touched on a little bit at the Webinar last Thursday, and I found so many people were responsive to the term or just felt a little ‘oh gosh...it’s me’.

If you happen to be one of those people who don’t know about imposter syndrome, (lucky you), but basically it’s that constant whisper of self-doubt that tells you ‘you’re not up to this’.

You may have the qualifications, experience, and skills, yet you can't help but question your own worth.

If you're nodding your head in recognition, you're not alone. Many, remarkable women struggle with these feelings too.

There’s a couple of things you can do to tackle imposter syndrome.

Embrace your achievements 🏆

As women, I think we’re taught to brush off our achievements, thinking they're just a matter of luck or outside forces - and you certainly never point them out to other people…don’t gloat!

But it's high time we change that mindset! Take time to celebrate our victories and feel proud of what we've accomplished - no imposters here.

Learn from failure 🏋🏼‍♀️

Failure isn’t the opposite of success; it’s part of it. Embrace it, learn from it, and remember that every successful woman has faced setbacks. Every. Single. One. ‘Failures’ are part of the journey.

Seek support 🤝

Telling a mate how you feel really helps. A problem shared is in-fact a problem halved. It could be a mentor, a close friend, or even a professional coach - it’ll perk you up and give you a fresh view of things.

Transformative self talk 🗣️

What you tell yourself really matters. Simply switch out self-doubt with self-affirmation. Give yourself a pep talk and remind yourself just how awesome you are and what you’ve achieved.

Set Realistic Goals 🎯

Imposter Syndrome thrives on needing to be perfect all the time. But here's the thing, success shouldn't be defined by impossible standards. It's important to set realistic goals and understand that perfection is just a myth. It's all about making progress.

Mentorship and Networking 🪢

Make connections with other professionals for someone you can chat to about it (also, I’m included in that list). Having a network of supportive people who believe in you is so important for your confidence.

Imposter Syndrome can really mess with your confidence, but don't worry! With some helpful strategies and support, you can totally conquer it.

Remember, your doubts don't define your worth. As a badass professional woman, you've worked hard and earned your place.
