"Stay awhile"...

There’s a lot of new growth on the trees outside. New blossoms, new foliage - there’s a lot that’s looking lush and green. I love this time of year. 🌱

A couple of things came to mind while I was thinking about the greenery and its beauty.

One thought was a line from a Mary Oliver poem ‘when I am among the trees’ that just says:

Around me the trees stir in their leaves

And call out “stay awhile.”

The light flows from their branches.

It’s a great poem - I’d recommend checking it out here

She’s spot on.

I don’t know about you, but for me, there’s never ending ‘list making’ and ‘to do’s’ and ‘oh, I need to call such and such’ going on in my head that I forget to just pause. To just stop for a minute, admire the trees, breathe, and noticing how the light flickers as the wind blows through them is incredibly calming.

I also thought of the phrase ‘you can’t see the forest for the trees’... Stepping back and reevaluating my ‘what’ and my ‘why’. My goals, desires and my joys.

Am I still on track for ‘this’? When was the last time I prioritised ‘that’?

Things easily get so hectic that we forget to carve out time and prioritise calm and focus. To gather our thoughts, regroup and ground down.

It’s all well and good to be hustling and ‘having it all’, but if you’re heading the wrong way cause you’re prioritising speed over direction, you might as well be going backwards.

This week, let’s all take a little bit of time to remember and admire the forest - even if it’s only for 5 minutes a day. Step back and ‘stay awhile’ so our roots can dig deeper and our branches can grow wider.
